Polybutylene Terephtalate (PBT) is a semi-crystalline engineering polymer, and belongs to polyester family of resins. Generaly, polyesters are synthesized by reacting an organic acid, in this case terephthalic acid, with an alcohol. In the case of PBT the alcohol is generically referred to as butylene glycol. The result is polybutylene terephthalate (PBT). If the alcohol used is ethylene glycol, than the resulting polymer is polyethylene terephthalate (PET).
Key PBT features are resistance to solvents (aliphatic hydrocarbons), low moisture absorption and excellent dimensional stability (shrinks very little), high stiffness, strength and hardness, heat-resistance up to 150°C.
It also exibits good and glossy surface finish, outstanding colour stability (even at at elevated temperatures)
and good UV stability. PBT is sensitive to hot water above 60°C as well as to alkalis and strong acids.
To improve some properties such as broad temperature range performance, impact resistance at low temperature, broad chemical resistance, PBT/PET alloys are also commercialized.

ALM KOMPAUNDI DOO has a wide range of different PBT grades, directly from its warehouses, in natural, white, black colour. Please click on the particular grade link associated with typical grade below.
